Winnie Harlow jokingly shared with Tyra Banks how she was often asked if her mom was white and her dad was black and if she wasn’t mixed properly in the belly. Harlow went on to become one of the 14 finalists of the season. It so happens that she is the only Canadian to have been a part of ANTM. Today she is a well-known Canadian model and public spokesperson for the skin condition vitiligo. The fact that she is beautiful inside out is probably what attracted basketballer Kyle Kuzma to her, and they are currently dating.
Early life
On 27th June 1994, she was born in the Greater Toronto area to Windsor Young and Lisa Brown. She is originally a Jamaican and has two sisters. At the tender age of four, she was diagnosed with a skin condition called ‘vitiligo’ which leads to the depigmentation of certain parts of the skin. Ever since, she has struggled to create an identity for herself. She dropped out of high school because she was constantly bullied and called a cow or a zebra because of her skin condition.
Who is Winnie Harlow Dating?
During a recent appearance on The Ellen De Generes Show, she revealed how love happened to her. It seems basketballer Kyle Kuzma who had a thing for her, approached her by direct messaging her on Instagram. However, she did not see the message for a year owing to some problem in Instagram’s system of working. A year later, bang in the middle of quarantine, he messaged her again after seeing a stunning picture of hers. This time they started talking and instantly hit it off. While going out on a real date or traveling to any place was a challenge owing to pandemic conditions, they made the best use of technology and face timed 24hours every single day for a month. Finally, he asked her to come to L. A and she moved to L.A. According to her, what she loves most about them as a couple is their height difference. Even though she being a model, is quite tall herself, Kyle Kuzma who is a basketballer still towers over her.
Her modeling career
Harlow modeled for the Spanish clothing brand Desigual and became its brand ambassador. In 2015 she was a part of the London Fashion Week as she walked the ramp for the clothing brand Ashish. She has modeled for fashion magazines such as i-D, Dazed, Spanish and Italian versions of Glamour magazine, Complex magazine, Ebony magazine, and Cosmopolitan. She has been interviewed by Vogue Italia’s website, for which she has also done a photoshoot. She has done a commercial for soft drink brand Sprite and was featured in a campaign for Swarovski. Harlow has represented several top brands such as Marc Jacobs, Fendi, Diesel, Tommy Hilfiger, Steve Madden, Nike, MAC, Puma, and Victoria’s Secret.
Supporting a cause
Winnie Harlow is currently fighting against being labeled a vitiligo sufferer. She has made it clear that she’s neither a vitiligo sufferer nor a vitiligo model. She explains she is a model, and she happens to have vitiligo. She’s totally against the labeling of people based on their special conditions. She once broke down while explaining why she doesn’t like being called a vitiligo sufferer. It is because she is not suffering she is instead succeeding in her life and motivating others with special conditions to succeed as well.
