Since The DVP, Emily starred in major box-office hits. She redid the iconic role of Mary Poppins. The Edge Of Tomorrow (7.9)
Genre: Sci-fi/ Action Not only was the movie a critical success, but it became Emily’s highest-grossing film to date! The story traces an officer (Tom Cruise) who is knee-deep into a suicide mission, in a time loop, battling a powerful fleet of aliens attacks the earth. His partner (Emily Blunt) gets a little smarter after each repeating death, slowing piecing together how they will overcome the creatures. Death after death, they finally figure it out.
The Wind Rises (7.8)
Genre: Japanese anime film Did you know that The Wind Rises was Emily and John’s first family collaboration? We bet you didn’t. Even though they only lent their voice when the movie was opened to American audiences. The Wind Rises is a 2013 movie. It initially released in only in Japan. In 2014, it reached audiences far and wide. The voice cast including Joseph-Gordon Levitt, John Krasinski, Martin Short, Stanley Tucci (Emily’s brother in law) and Emily Blunt herself. He designed Japanese fighter aircraft, the A6M World War II fighter plane. It was directed by Hayao Miyazaki, and animated by Studio Ghibli. Praised for its gorgeous views, The Wind Rises was a success worldwide.
Sicario (7.6)
Genre: Action/War/thriller Emily Blunt has taken a wide variety of roles. In Sicario she played Kate Macer, an FBI agent who is sent on a dangerous mission to contain the drug war at US-Mexico borders. She is sent down to track down the man in charge of the Mexican Drug War. While on her duty, she is exposed to things she’d never thought of before. How complicit her seniors and other members of the FBI are in the drug war. The scene where she particularly breaks down is the most fantastic one. Emily’s performance in Sicario was the most praised one.
A Quiet Place (7.5)
Genre: Horror/ Thriller Does the movie really need an introduction? I mean come on! This power couple, John Krasinski and Emily Blunt go on to create a horror masterpiece and the world is shaken. Not only does the movie win critically and at the box office, but it also gets a sequel within a year. It is not clear why they do that or how the world has descended into an apocalypse. The last scene where Emily goes into a bathtub to give birth to a baby is reported to have shot in a single take. John Krasinski said he was initially a little nervous about working beside his wife, but then when she came into the room to do what she does, he was taken aback as he’d never seen her perform earlier. Krasinski played the father of the family, Blunt played his wife. The movie earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Sound Editing. Since the sound was such a huge part of the movie, John said most of the effort went into it!
Looper (7.4)
Genre: Sci-fi/ Thriller The movie is about a future in which a mob has sent their victims back in time to get them executed by the loopers, the criminals. Joe played by Joseph Gordon Levitt is a looper, who becomes a victim of his own actions. The movie also stars Bruce Willis. At the end of the movie, Joe and Sara confront each other. The thrilling pace, action, and suspense contributed to the movie becoming an ultimate hit. As did Emily’s performance, by the way! Looper is a must-watch if you are looking for some fast-paced and nerve-wracking performance by Emily. We’d put it beside The Adjustment Bureau, The Girl on the Train, and Looper.
The Young Victoria (7.3)
Genre: Historical Drama Wait a second, you are saying Emily Blunt is a British actress and she hasn’t done one Royal role? It was in 2009 that Emily Blunt took on the role of Queen Victoria in a British-American movie known as The Young Victoria. Just like the beginning of the Netflix original, The Crown, this film traced the life of the Queen as she took on the mantle of Monarch of The United Kingdom. When she was crowned, Elizabeth was a young mother of two, a newly married woman and Britain had decided into chaos. It was after World War II, an uncertain time when Elizabeth took the charge and navigated through muddy waters of politics and her family life. It also received multiple Academy Award nominations, eventually winning Best Costume Design.
The Muppets (7.1)
Genre: Comedy/kids Emily Blunt’s other film where her brief appearance dazzled the audiences! The 2011 movie, The Muppets starred Jason Segel and Amy Adams in the lead roles. While Emily made an appearance as Miss Piggy’s receptionist at Vogue Paris. So into her Devil Wears Prada character, she was! After all, she owes a lot to The Devil Wears Prada for if it wasn’t that movie, she’d have taken a bit more time to be recognized. It was loved across all theatres. Because it had humor, wit, and charm required. Emily’s appearance was the most anticipated.
The Adjustment Bureau (7.0)
Genre: Romance/ Thriller Have you seen The Adjustment Bureau? If not, then you must at once! Why would someone miss out on Matt Damon and Emily Blunt thriller? Not me. There is an element of romance in the sci-fi thriller, as well. It would be an understatement to call it an element. But I depends upon how you perceive the movie. Some say it is a thriller in the garb of a romance, some say the opposite. The story goes something like this: a U.S. congressman discovers that the weirdest and most random events that occur in his life are being masterminded by a group of mysterious people. Eventually, he meets them, and the laydown conditions, the two of them, Elsie and David must separate ways. Charlie Wilson’s War (7.0) Genre: Thriller/Comedy But her performance for this one was especially loved by the fans. The movie came out in 2007. It is basically a comedy-drama that traces the life of Congressman Charlie Wilson and CIA officer Gust Avrakotos. The two attempt to head the Operation Cyclone during the Soviet-Afghan war. Charlie Wilson’s War stars Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams, and Ned Beatty. When Emily was cast in the movie, she’d just done DVP, as such her performance was brief. She was cast as Jane Liddle, the daughter of Larry Liddle (Peter Gerety). To this day, Charlie Wilson’s War continues to be a thoroughly loved movie. Not only was it a huge success at the box office, but it was also a critical success. Emily’s brief performance was praised by critics in unison.
The Devil Wears Prada (6.9)
Genre: Comedy-drama The Devil Wears Prada. She plays Emily, a British assistant to the editor of American Vogue, the ruthless Miranda Priestly. Some say Miranda is loosely based on Vogue’s Anna Wintour but those claims remain untested. Emily is a hard worker, she has no life besides her work. Miranda is a vile boss who expects her to be at her beck and call, 24×7. All because Emily wants to go to Paris in the fall. She gets to wear couture and go to all the shows and all the parties and meet all of the designers. Emily is just as ruthless as her boss, Miranda is. But the thing is, she loves her job more than anything in the world. While the recent college graduate, (Anne Hathaway) leaves Runway, the fictitious fashion magazine, Emily stays in crutches. Oh yeah, she has an accident while buying scarves from Hermes!
